Brain Injury Association of Illinois
In February 2017, I was the victim of a hit and run that left me with a lifelong traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Unfortunately, I am not alone. According to the CDC, approximately 1.5 million Americans sustain a traumatic brain injury each year. Of those, 80,000 people will experience a long-term disability as the result of their TBI. More than 50,000 people die each year as well as the result of TBI.
The Brain Injury Association of Illinois is a non-profit, statewide membership organization comprised of people with brain injuries, family members, friends, and professionals. The BIA of IL is dedicated to providing information, advocacy, and support, and is an affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America. The Brain Injury Association of Illinois is dedicated to serving individuals with traumatic brain injury, and the professionals who treat them. The mission of BIA of IL is to improve the quality of life for persons with brain injury and their families and to promote the prevention of brain injury. This is accomplished by acting as an information and resource clearinghouse, sponsoring annual educational programs, hosting adult and pediatric recreational camps, actively participating in legislative advocacy, fostering prevention awareness, and encouraging research.
